The Conservation Commission recently held a series of three "Citizen Conversations" on the future of West Greenwich. Click here for our Report to the Town Council, which was presented at the April 13, 2011 Town Council meeting.

Our first conversation was held on Sunday, November 14, 2010, the second on January 23, 2011, and the third on February 27th. We discussed with residents the following topics: What do you think of when you use the term "rural?" How do you really want to see the town grow? What investments will keep West Greenwich rural affordable and fiscally sound? Would a green, clean energy, sustainable economy do that? In what does the real wealth of our town consist?

Together, we explored these questions in a very unusual kind of citizen dialogue, in a non-politically charged, deeply positive, constructive, fun and friendly atmosphere.... and at the second 'conversation' we began to form ideas and recommendations for actions. Our discussions were centered around the following topics: Land and Nature, Community, Sources of Energy, Business and Development, and Tone and Culture. At the third 'conversation' we refined our thoughts to come up with a more detailed action plan.
