Rescue Service Announcement

Changes to the Town Rescue Services

Our current rescue services have been provided by volunteers at our three volunteer fire companies along with two full time rescue personnel who are Town employees.  After months of discussion with all three volunteer companies, the Town will be taking over the rescue service town wide.  Voters at the June 14th financial town meeting approved the hiring of two additional full time rescue personnel. The 4 full time staff will be supplemented with per diem qualified ALS (advanced life support) volunteers who will receive a stipend from the Town.  This will allow the Town to provide full qualified rescue service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  The Town service will be headquartered at the station on Route 102, centrally located and next to Route 95.

Rescue 3 at the Hianloland Fire Company will serve as a backup and continue to be staffed by volunteers.  Our existing mutual aid agreements with Coventry, Exeter and other communities will remain in place and is reciprocal.  Lake Mishnock Rescue (which is owned by the Town) has had difficulty retaining qualified rescue volunteers and has been unable to respond to over 90 calls for service from January 1, 2021 to present.  This projects a false sense of security for residents.  The town will relocate the Mishnock rescue to headquarters as a backup vehicle.

The consolidation, will take effect July 1, 2021, will improve and further professionalize the rescue service our residents deserve in times of need.  Volunteer fire services will remain in place at our three volunteer fire companies.  New members are always needed and welcome.  If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the fire service, contact:

Rescue services are provided free to any Town resident.  If you receive a bill for rescue service, contact the Town Administrator’s office at 392-3800 ext. 123 and the bill will be abated.  Please make sure your house number is clearly visible from the road.  It may save your life.
