Inspectors / Zoning

The West Greenwich Building Official's office is located at 302 Victory Highway in the Annex building south of the Town Hall. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The office is no longer opened on Wednesday evenings. The office number is (401) 392-3800 x. 114.

NEW BUILDINGS, ADDITIONS, ALTERATIONS, STRUCTURES, ETC. 
General permit fees based on the cost of construction (labor & materials)
$500 or less $25
Over $500 but less than $1000 $35
Over $1000 but less than $2000 $45
Over $2000 but not over $500,000 $45 (plus $6 per $1000 or fraction thereof over $2000)
Over $500,000 $3,033 (plus $4 per $1000 or fraction thereof over $500,000)
State Fee is $1 per $1000, maximum of $50 on residential
Sample Calculation:
Cost of Construction $38,000.00
Permit fee to Town $261.00
Permit fee to State $38.00
Total Permit Fee $299.00
PLUMBING / MECHANICAL / ELECTRICAL
2% of the total cost of labor and materials plus $1 per $1000 for the State
Sample Calculation:
Cost of electrical work $15,000.00
Permit fee to Town $300.00
Permit fee to State $15.00
Total Permit Fee $315.00
COMMERCIAL PERMIT FEES
Calculated individually for each phase (plumbing, mechanical, electrical).  Based
on total cost of completed job (material & labor).  
2% of the first $1000 then $1 per $1000 over $100,000 plus $1 per $1000 on the total
for the State.
Sample Calculation:
Cost of electrical work $250,000.00
Permit fee to Town - $100,000 X 2% $2,000.00
Plus $1 per $1000 over $100,000 $150.00
Permit fee to State $250.00
Total Permit Fee $2,400.00
* We also require a copy of plumbing, mechanical and electrical licenses.
