Town Clerk

The office is responsible for recording all deeds, mortgages, liens, releases, etc., on property located in the Town of West Greenwich. All documents presented for recording must be an original or a certified copy. When sending documents by mail, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope to return the originals to you. The office stops recording at 3:30.

Vital Records

Birth, death, and marriage records are kept in the Town Clerk's Office. Certified copies of vital records are available upon completion of a form by a qualified person. The cost is $22 for the first copy and $18 for any additional copies of the same record requested on the same day. We cannot issue photocopies of the records. If you are requesting the copy by mail, you must include the completed application form, a copy of your driver's license or other photo ID, a check made out to the Town of West Greenwich, and a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Birth Certificates

Birth certificates are available in 8.5 by 11 inches. If your parents were living in West Greenwich when you were born, we should have your record on file. Birth records less than 100 years old can only be obtained by an immediate relative.

Death Certificates

A death certificate will be on file in West Greenwich if the death occurred in West Greenwich or the decedent resided in West Greenwich at the time of death. Death certificates less than 50 years old can only be issued to a relative, a lawyer, or the funeral director.

Licensing

The Town Clerk's Office is responsible for issuing various licenses. With every license, the completed application and associated fees are required before placing it on the Town Council agenda for approval. All taxes for the business must be up to date at the time of filing. The specified requirements, application process, renewal date,s and fees can be obtained by calling Kelly Laiho at 401-392-3800, ext 100. It is the responsibility of the license holder to renew the license annually.
